Our base for the Fallas Week Special will be the Hotel El Palen based in the old part of the very pleasant town of Segorbe. Straddling two small hills in the valley of the Palencia River and surrounded by pine-clad mountain ranges and natural parks Segorbe is both an ideal walking base and an interesting town to stay in. Steeped in history with a castle, aqueduct and cathedral it has both Roman and Moorish influences that are much in evidence today. With its market, shops, bars and restaurants Segorbe is big enough to have all you need but small enough to be in the countryside in just 10 minutes.

The Hotel El Palen is a small, family run hotel that we have been using for the last five years. Well located and incorporating one of the best restaurants in Segorbe it is comfortable, full of character and the family make you feel really welcome.

Hotel El Palen
The family-run Hospederia El Palen sits above what is widely regarded to be the best restaurant in Segorbe and has a relaxed, friendly and comfortable atmosphere. The 18th century building, once the town's bakery and oil mill, has eight en-suite, air conditioned bedrooms, each with television and telephone. Located in the upper, older part of Segorbe, some of the rooms have far-reaching views over the tiled rooftops to the mountains beyond. The helpful and friendly family staff will take great care to ensure you enjoy your stay in their welcoming hotel.

With the heart of Segorbe on your doorstep, you are just a short walk from the many bars and restaurants of the town's plaza, the palatial 16th century town hall, the magnificent 13th century gothic-style cathedral, the remains of the old city wall and aqueduct, and the Roman hill fort that crowns the town.

As Segorbe is famous throughout Spain for its delicious hams, cured meats and sausages, picnics will not be a problem. And for dinner, you could always try the local rice dishes, stews or, of course, the excellent tapas. A wide range of fruits and vegetables are also grown locally, including locquats, cherries, sharonfruit, apples, pears and olives.
