Walks in Spain have been sponsoring a Mary's Meals feeding programme by adopting the Luphampha School in Zambia.

It is estimated that 58 million children in poorer areas of the world go to school hungry, in many cases not having eaten for days. It is also generally recognised that the long term solutions for poverty can only come from a better educated population more able to care for themselves.

Mary's Meals have addressed this in a fantastically simple and effective way that ensures that each child that attends school receives a free meal.

This has three real advantages; alleviates hunger for that child, removes the burden on the family to try and find food for that child and most importantly ensures the child gets an education that eventually will overcome the poverty that they are suffering.

Mary's Meals is an amazing charity that is already feeding over two and a half million children a day. It is unique in that it relies only on word of mouth and ambassadors like ourselves to raise donations. It never advertises and 93% of all donations go directly to feeding the children (very little is spent on administration etc.).

And even more amazing, they are so efficient it costs only £19.1 or $24 or Can/Aus $33 a year to feed each child! Doesn't it make you wonder why any children go hungry!
